Casa, sometimes called the Children's House, is where the Montessori method is most visible. At The Children's Montessori House in Castries, children aged 3 to 5 work with a full range of hands-on materials across language, mathematics, sensorial exploration, and practical life, each one designed to make an abstract concept concrete before it is ever explained.
The three-year age span within a Casa classroom is intentional. Younger children absorb by watching older ones at work, and older children deepen their own understanding by teaching what they know. This rhythm builds not just academic skills but real confidence and responsibility, preparing children for the structure and expectations of primary school in Saint Lucia.
By the time a child moves on from Casa, they carry more than early reading and number sense. They carry the ability to focus, to choose purposeful work, and to see themselves as capable learners.
Through hands-on materials like sandpaper letters and movable alphabets, children build the phonemic awareness that leads naturally into reading and writing. Language work in Casa is sensory and sequential, not memorized by rote.
Concrete materials, from bead chains to number rods, let children physically experience quantity before they ever work with abstract numerals. This hands-on foundation makes later mathematical concepts feel familiar rather than foreign.
Casa children continue and extend the practical life work begun in the Toddler years, taking on tasks like food preparation and care of the classroom. These activities build concentration, sequencing, and a genuine sense of contribution.
Sensorial materials help children classify, compare, and refine what their senses already tell them, from color gradation to sound cylinders. This work quietly builds the vocabulary and precision that later academic subjects depend on.
